Undergraduate Student Research
Welcome

Welcome to the site for undergraduate student research and students conducting research abroad.

Preparing an application for approval to conduct research with human subjects for the first time can be daunting. In fact, student researchers are held to the same standards as faculty researchers. Procedures for protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects are the same, no matter who conducts the research.

The staff of the Campus Institutional Review Board for Protecting Research Subjects (Lorna, Holly, and Peg) have developed resources to guide you through the application process. The final product will be an approved research protocol.

On this site you will find:

First Things First: A brief list of essential things to do before you start writing your application for approval, called a protocol.

A special form for undergraduate students that will guide you step by step through the protocol preparation process.

A guide to writing consent forms and scripts for obtaining oral consent.

A guide to obtaining release forms for the use of photographs, audio, and videotapes.

Sample student protocols.

A list of common errors. Be sure to read this list. It will help you avoid delays in securing approval for your protocol.
