Fulbright Worldwide Scholar-in-Residence Program The Fulbright Worldwide Scholar-in-Residence Program brings visiting scholars and professionals from abroad to lecture at U.S. colleges and universities for one semester or one academic year. Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence can have a significant impact on U.S. colleges and universities. In addition to teaching courses, scholars give campus-wide and community lectures, help initiate international programs and contribute to curriculum development. Although preference is given to proposals in the humanities or social sciences, other fields focusing on international issues will be considered. The program is especially appropriate for small liberal arts colleges, minority-serving institutions, and community colleges, many of which do not often have the opportunity to host visiting scholars. 2006-2008 North Carolina Sea Grant Proposals North Carolina Sea Grant invites preproposals for coastal and marine research and education projects for the program period of Feb. 1, 2006 through Jan. 31, 2008. Project preproposals are solicited now for review and consideration prior to a call for full proposals for inclusion in the upcoming Sea Grant institutional proposal. All preproposals will be reviewed for need and relevance. Full proposals will be requested only from investigators who have submitted preproposals, although anyone may submit a full proposal. Earth Sciences Research at the National Science Foundation The National Science Foundation invites proposals for the Earth Sciences Research at the National Science Foundation programs. The Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) supports research and education related to the earth's terrestrial regions, interior, and freshwater systems. Projects may employ any combination of field, laboratory, and computational studies with observational, theoretical, or experimental approaches. Support is available for research and research infrastructure through grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements awarded in response to investigator-initiated proposals from US universities and other eligible institutions. Multidisciplinary work is strongly encouraged. Projects involving disciplines outside the earth sciences will be recommended for joint support with other programs within the Foundation. NSF Encourages Unsolicited Proposals to the Division of Chemistry Relevant to Cyber-enabled Chemistry Because the National Science Foundation (NSF) recognizes the transformational potential of cyber-based tools, its Division of Chemistry continues to update instrumentation and multi-investigator programs (see http://www.nsf.gov/chem for a complete listing) to encourage projects that contribute to the development of cyber-enabled chemistry. However, the Division recognizes that its core traditional source of bold transformative ideas - individual investigators - has much to contribute to this important effort. Therefore, unsolicited research proposals to the Division that include innovative uses of cyber-based tools that can impact chemistry broadly are strongly encouraged. Support for both research and cyber-infrastructure innovation can be requested in the budgets. Alzheimer's Disease Core Centers The National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications from qualified institutions for support of Alzheimer's Disease Core Centers. These Centers are designed to serve as shared research resources that will facilitate research on Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, distinguish them from the process of normal brain aging and mild cognitive impairment, and lead to better diagnostic and treatment strategies. Cutting-Edge Basic Research Awards (CEBRA) The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) welcomes applications for Cutting-Edge Basic Research Awards (CEBRA) to foster highly innovative or conceptually creative research that advances our understanding of drug abuse and addiction and how to prevent and treat them. The CEBRA is a new mechanism specifically designed to support research that is high-risk and potentially high-impact and that is underrepresented or not included in NIDA's current portfolio. Development of Assays for High Throughput Drug Screening The National Institutes of Health requests proposals for the Development of Assays for High Throughput Drug Screening. The Fulbright Scholar Program is offering lecturing and research awards in some 140 countries for the 2005-2006 academic year. Opportunities are available not only to college and university faculty and administrators but also for professionals from business and government, as well as artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. There are awards in 45 different disciplines and professional fields. Traditional Fulbright awards are available from two months to an academic year or longer. A short-term grants program-the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program-offers two-to six-week grants in a variety of disciplines and fields. While foreign language skills are needed in some countries, most Fulbright lecturing assignments are in English. Long Range Marine Corps Engineering, Scientific Research and Business/Logistics Projects The Marine Corps System Command (MCSC) has a requirement to provide the Marine Corps with continued capability to respond effectively and rapidly to growing research and development requirements in the areas of Engineering, Scientific Research and Business/logistics. MCSC desires to establish a contractual arrangement with academia that will foster an education institution/academic research strategic relationship. Research topics include vision, audition, haptics, attention, memory, reasoning, written and spoken discourse, motor control, and developmental issues in all topic areas. Physical Sciences & Engineering NSF Information and Intelligent Systems Grants The National Science Foundation's Division of Information and Intelligent Systems is seeking NSF Information and Intelligent Systems Grant proposals that describe ambitious research and/or education projects that will extend the state-of-the-art in two areas.
Additionally, the Division is seeking research and/or education proposals that use or extend Collaborative Systems and Robust Intelligence theories or methods and apply them in three application areas.
Single or multidisciplinary research and/or education projects will be supported that explore innovative ideas, theories and experiments that move beyond incremental advances to enable fundamentally different intelligent or collaborative systems approaches or paradigms. The development of curricular materials that have the potential to greatly improve higher education in Collaborative Systems and Robust Intelligence and their applications will also be supported. Curriculum development projects may be submitted as stand-alone proposals or may be included as part of broader research and education proposals under the above categories.
