Download Issue: Hemingway Translation Grants The French Embassy -- USA French Cultural Services seeks applications for the Hemingway Translation Grants. Financial assistance for American publishers is available through the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States. It assists projects that are not already supported by the Centre National du Livre and allows publishers to be supported directly through funds available in the US at the Book Office of the French Embassy. Institute of Museum and Library Services Calls for Comments on New African American History and Culture Funding Opportunity The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) seeks comments from the museum field on a new $842,000 African American History and Culture funding opportunity. The National Museum of African American History and Culture Act supports a wide range of activities, including a combination of grants, scholarships, internships and endowments to strengthen African American museum operations, care of collections and personnel; advance the study of and promote careers in African American history, art and culture; encourage collaborations among museums, historical societies and educational institutions; and enhance educational programming. Publishing Historical Records The National Archives and Records Administration invites applications for the Publishing Historical Record program. The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) supports projects to publish historical records of national significance. Awards normally are for one, two, or three years and have ranged between $35,000-$185,000. Projects that have been supported or endorsed by the NHPRC are also eligible for Publication Subventions. Archival and Records Project Grants The National Archives and Records Administration seeks applications for the Archival and Records Project Grants. The Commission supports projects to facilitate the use of historical records held by archives and other repositories and to assure their long-term preservation. The NHPRC supports identifying, collecting, describing, reformatting (including microfilming and other means of reproduction and migration), and preserving documentary sources significant to US history and culture. This program also supports projects to develop tools and techniques for the profession and projects to address professional education activities. United Methodist Committee on Relief -- Request for Proposals for Katrina Aid Today The United Methodist Committee on Relief has released a Request for Proposals in conjunction with their Katrina Aid Today program. The current RFP is for grants up to $500,000 for local organizations providing case management and direct aid to Katrina survivors. The grant applications are to cover a 16-month program of case management for Katrina-affected survivors, carried out by local agencies. Deadline: Mar. 10. Life Skills for State and Local Prisoners The Department of Education seeks applications for Life Skills for State and Local Prisoners. The program provides financial assistance for establishing and operating programs designed to reduce recidivism through the development and improvement of life skills necessary for reintegration of adult prisoners into society. Community Action for a Renewed Environment Program The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeks applications for the Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) Program. CARE is a unique community based, community driven, multimedia demonstration program designed to help communities understand and reduce risks due to toxics and environmental pollutants from all sources. The purpose of this program is to improve student reading skills and academic achievement by providing students with increased access to up-to-date school library materials; well-equipped, technologically advanced school library media centers; and well-trained, professionally certified school library media specialists. The Department of Education anticipates making 100 awards from the estimated program funding of $18,901.586. Deadline: Apr. 11. Advanced Placement Incentive Program The Department of Education invites applications for the Advanced Placement Incentive (API) Program. The API program awards competitive grants designed to increase the successful participation of low-income students in advanced placement courses and tests. By supporting increased access to and participation in advanced placement courses and tests, the program provides greater opportunities for low-income students to achieve to high standards in English, mathematics, science, and other core subjects. Save America's Treasures The Institute of Museum and Library Services invites applications for the Save America's Treasures program. The grants are available for preservation and/or conservation work on nationally significant intellectual and cultural artifacts and collect ions and on nationally significant historic properties. Grants require a dollar-for-dollar, non-Federal match, which can be cash, donated services, or use for equipment. The minimum grant requested for collections projects is $25,000 Federal share; the minimum grant request for historic property projects is $125,000 Federal share. Child Health Research Career Development Award (K12) The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) invites applications to the Child Health Research Career Development Award (CHRCDA) program. The primary objective of the CHRCDA program is to provide pediatric research institutions with a greater capacity for mentoring junior investigators and, ultimately, to foster translational research on clinically relevant questions enabling basic science findings to be more rapidly applied to clinical problems. The anticipated number of awards is 1-6 for this RFA. The total amount to be committed to the program is approximately $2.6 million in total costs in FY 2007. Principal Investigators must be the chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics or the chief of the pediatric service. Deadlines: Mar. 20 (letter of intent), Apr. 19 (applications). NSF Nanotechnology Undergraduate Education The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks applications for Nanotechnology Undergraduate Education (NUE). The solicitation aims at introducing nanoscale science, engineering, and technology through a variety of interdisciplinary approaches into undergraduate education. The focus is on nanoscale engineering education with relevance to devices and systems and/or on the social, economic, and ethical issues that surround nanotechnology. NSF anticipates that about 8-10 standard grants totaling $2 M will be awarded, pending the availability of funds. The maximum award will be $200 K for two years. Only one proposal may be submitted by any institution as lead institution, with the following exception: an institution may submit a second proposal as the lead institution, if it is focused on the societal, ethical, economic, and/or environmental implications of nanoscale science and technology (two proposals focused on these areas are not allowed). US Summer Institutes for Pakistani Undergraduate Students The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition to develop and implement the US Summer Institutes for Pakistani Undergraduate Students, to take place in the US during the summer of 2006. The Bureau anticipates awarding two separate assistance awards to support two institutes for Pakistani undergraduate students. Each institute is intended to provide a minimum of 15-20 highly motivated second- and third-year undergraduate students from Pakistan with a six-week academic seminar, including a two-week US travel component that will give the participants a deeper understanding of the program themes. Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate and Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants Program The Department of Agriculture, Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), requests applications for the Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate and Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants Program. The program provides traineeship programs to eligible institutions to develop scientific and professional expertise in the food and agricultural sciences. CSREES solicits applications for 1) Fellowships to train students for master's and doctoral degrees in food and agricultural sciences, and; 2) for Special International Study or Thesis/Dissertation Research Travel Allowances for eligible USDA Fellows. NSF Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks applications for Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI). The CCLI program seeks to improve the quality of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for undergraduate students. The program supports efforts to create new learning materials and teaching strategies, develop faculty expertise, implement educational innovations, assess learning and evaluate innovations, and conduct research on STEM teaching and learning. The program supports three types of projects representing three different phases of development, ranging from small, exploratory investigations to large, comprehensive projects. Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks proposals from Integrated Earth Systems Science Programs (IESSP) teams for projects that can be used to facilitate inquiry-based investigations of the environment and the Earth systems via the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program. Integrated Earth Systems Science Programs (IESSP) are defined as major NSF- or NASA-funded research programs related to Earth system science. The GLOBE program will facilitate reform in geoscience education by funding programs that connect the work of scientists to the practice of teaching and learning science in the classroom. Solid Waste Management Assistance The Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9, solicits proposals to fund projects that address Solid Waste Reduction and Management. Cooperative agreements will be awarded to applicants carrying out projects that serve the following states and territories: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the US territories in the Pacific Islands, and the lands in Indian Country in Region 9. The aim of this funding is to support innovative ideas with the goal of fostering positive change. Whitehall Foundation Research Grants The Whitehall Foundation seeks applications for Research Grants. Grants in basic research in neurobiology are available for established scientists working at accredited US academic institutions. Grants will not be awarded to investigators who have already received, or expect to receive, substantial support from other sources, even if it is for an unrelated purpose. Research grants normally range from $30,000 to $75,000 per year for up to three years. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation -- Call for Proposals on Childhood Obesity The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has issued a Call for Proposals for Round 6 of the Active Living Research Program on Childhood Obesity. Active Living Research is a $12.5 million national program to stimulate and support research that will identify environmental factors and policies that influence physical activity. The three priority topics are young people's use of parks, physical activity in and around buildings, and physical activity in rural areas. 2006 Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences User Meeting The Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory will hold its 2006 CNMS User Meeting on June 14-16, 2006, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Multiple Principal Investigator Awards Upcoming for Support of NIH Team Science Projects The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will implement a Federal-wide policy to formally allow Multiple Principal Investigator Awards on individual research awards. The multiple-PI model is intended to supplement, and not to replace, the traditional single PI model. Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program Predoctoral Traineeship Awards The Department of Defense solicits applications for Predoctoral Traineeship Awards. The award prepares promising graduate students studying breast cancer under the guidance of a designated mentor for careers in breast cancer research. Individuals enrolled in a Ph.D. or M.D./PhD. program are encouraged to apply. Funding for Predoctoral Traineeship Awards can be requested for up to $30,000 per year for direct costs. Prevention of Airborne Infections in Occupational Settings The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) invites applications to conduct research in basic, applied, or population research that will advance Prevention of Airborne Infections in Occupational Settings. Intervention Research Grants to Promote the Health of People with Disabilities The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, seeks applications for the Intervention Research Grants to Promote the Health of People with Disabilities. The purpose of this research program is to develop, implement, and measure the effectiveness of interventions that promote the health and wellness of people with disabilities and prevent secondary conditions across the lifespan. SNP Health Association Resource (SHARE) The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute seeks a contractor to provide high-quality, large-scale, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) genotyping including, but not limited to, obtaining the samples, ordering the genotyping assays, obtaining reagents, genotyping SNPs, repeating failed genotyping reactions, genotyping additional SNPs to compensate for those that failed, assessing genotype quality, analyzing the data to produce a clean data set, transferring the data, and indirect, facilities, and/or administration services. American Industrial Hygiene Association - Value of the Profession Research Project The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) requests proposals for the AIHA-Value of the Profession Research Project program. AIHA wishes to contract with one or more institutions or organizations that can provide research/data that: 1) validates the business value of the industrial hygiene profession, preferably in quantifiable measures, and 2) is applicable to the wide variety of AIHA members who will use this data to make the business case for their efforts across many industries. The Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) provides support for basic and clinical research in progressive supranuclear palsy. Cost and Effectiveness of Pertussis Vaccination Among Healthcare Workers The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invite applications for the Cost and Effectiveness of Pertussis Vaccination Among Healthcare Workers. This program will provide funding to determine if vaccinating Healthcare Workers against pertussis will decrease the economic costs and use of antibiotic post-exposure prophylaxis, as well as prevent morbidity and transmission of pertussis from Healthcare Workers to others. Support and Resources Needed for Universal Childhood Influenza Vaccination: Providers' Perspective The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seek proposals for the Support and Resources Needed for Universal Childhood Influenza Vaccination: Providers' Perspective. This project would consist of interviews, surveys, and on-site data collection to determine physicians' support for a universal childhood influenza vaccination recommendation, what office policies would be implemented to handle seasonal spikes in vaccination, current resources used to vaccinate, and additional resources needed to implement a universal influenza recommendation for all children. Urban Partnership Academic Centers of Excellence The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) requests applications for cooperative agreements to establish Urban Partnership Academic Centers of Excellence (U-PACE). The centers are expected to actively foster an environment conducive to reciprocally beneficial collaborations among health scientists, social scientists and a targeted high-risk community, with the common goal of reducing youth interpersonal violence, injury and death.
