Residential Fellowships in the Creative Arts

The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) invites applications for the Residential Fellowships in the Creative Arts, providing two weeks to two months in a rural setting where artists may work free from distractions. VCCA is a working retreat for writers, visual artists, composers, and proponents of New Genres. Based on their ability to pay, artists are expected to contribute a portion of the actual cost of residencies ($120 per day), typically about $30 a day. Open Society Archives

The Open Society Archives at Central European University in Hungary offers Research Grants to support visiting scholars pursuing research in its holdings. The three areas in which the Archives collects materials are: Communism and the Cold War, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, in the period after World War II; Human Rights Issues and Movements, with particular emphasis on the second half of the twentieth century; and the Soros Foundations, including records of the Soros Foundations and Open Society Institute organizations. Anthropological Research

The Wenner-Gren Foundation offers the Professional Development International Postdoctoral Fellowships intended for scholars from countries in which anthropology or specific subfields of anthropology are underrepresented and who therefore seek additional training to enhance their skills or to develop new areas of expertise in anthropology. The applicant must have a home sponsor who is a member of the institution with which s/he is affiliated in the home country and a host sponsor who is a member of the institution in which the candidate plans to pursue training. Peace Scholar Dissertation Fellowships

The US Institute of Peace (USIP) invites applications for the Peace Scholar Dissertation Fellowships competition in the Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace. The program is open to doctoral students enrolled in a US university and working on a dissertation related to the peaceful resolution of international conflicts. Peace Scholars work at their universities or appropriate field research sites. Priority will be given to projects that contribute knowledge relevant to the formulation of policy on international peace and conflict issues. Humanities Research

The National Humanities Center offers 40 Fellowships in the Humanities for advanced study in all fields of the humanities. The Center provides an environment for individual research and fosters the exchange of ideas among scholars. Areas of special interest are unrestricted. However, the following designated awards are available for the academic year 2006-07: three fellowships for scholars in any humanistic field whose research concerns religion; three fellowships for young scholars (up to 10 years beyond receipt of doctorate) in literary studies; a fellowship in art history or visual culture; a fellowship for French history or culture; a senior fellowship in Asian Studies, theology, or American art history. NC Artists and Writers

The North Carolina Arts Council provides fellowships to support artists in the development and creation of art because their work is essential to our cultural heritage and the creative vitality of the state. Artists are eligible to apply if they have been a resident of North Carolina for at least one year immediately prior to the application deadline. Artists who receive fellowships must maintain their North Carolina residency status during the grant period. Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program at the National Endowment for Democracy

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has announced the establishment of the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program. The program enables democracy activists, practitioners, scholars, and journalists from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change. Fellows maintain full-time residence at the International Forum for Democratic Studies, the research arm of the Endowment, located in Washington, DC. The Forum hosts 12 to 15 Reagan-Fascell fellows per year for periods ranging from three to ten months. Each fellow receives a monthly stipend for living expenses as well as an office and support services, including access to the Forum’s Democracy Resource Center and Library. While the program's scholarly track is intended primarily for accomplished or promising scholars from new and emerging democracies, distinguished scholars from the US are also eligible to apply. History of Art and the Humanities

The Getty Research Institute offers residential grants to scholars through its theme-year scholar programs, library research grants, and conservation guest scholars program. Residence periods vary from a few weeks to two years; stipends and provisions of additional resources to facilitate research also vary. Also provided by the Getty are nonresidential grants that enable scholars to pursue their research wherever necessary to complete their projects. Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation offers two fellowships: Travel Grants are available on a limited basis for scholars and teachers wishing to make short-term visits to Monticello to pursue research or educational projects. History of North American Jewry

The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives invites applications for its Fellowship Program in American Jewish Studies, providing recipients with month-long fellowships for research and writing at the Center, located on the Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Residential Fellowships at the Boston Athenaeum

The Boston Athenaeum Library offers the Mooney Research Fellowships. Fleishman Civil Society Fellows

Duke University's Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy invites applications for the Fleishman Fellows Program.
