Public Policy and Public Affairs

The New American Foundation invites applications for the New America Fellows Program which provides exceptionally promising young writers and thinkers with the financial, editorial, and institutional support they need to establish themselves as credible voices in the national debate. A small number are Senior Fellows, who have already distinguished themselves as leading political thinkers and social commentators. A larger number will be those who have exceptional potential, but are not yet well established in public discourse. Stipends range from $25,000 up to $75,000 for Senior Fellows. NSF Science and Society Postdoctoral Fellowships

The National Science Foundation invites applications for the Science and Society (S&S) program's Postdoctoral Fellowships. S&S considers proposals that examine questions that arise in the interactions of engineering, science, technology, and society. There are four components: Ethics and Values in Science, Engineering and Technology; History and Philosophy of Science, Engineering and Technology; Social Studies of Science, Engineering and Technology; and Studies of Policy, Science, Engineering and Technology. The fellowships are meant to enhance the methodological skills and research competence of researchers in S&S fields. S&S provides funds for dissertation research expenses not normally available through the student's university. The maximum award normally will be $42,000/year, for up to two years. Truman Awards

The Harry S. Truman Library Institute invites applications for Research Grants to enable postdoctoral scholars to come to the Library for one to three weeks to use its archival facilities. North Carolina Biotechnology Center Collaborative Funding Grant

The Collaborative Funding Grant Program, jointly sponsored by the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology, and Science at North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBC), is intended to support a graduate or postdoctoral student in a university research laboratory, designated as a Kenan Institute/North Carolina Biotechnology Center Fellow, who will perform a project of commercial interest under the guidance of a principal investigator. This grant is designed to: Promote long-term cooperation among North Carolina universities, nonprofit research institutes, and biotechnology companies, and Generate discoveries that the company partner might develop further to stimulate economic development and create jobs. The funding range is $40,000 to $50,000 per year for one to three years, and requires matching funding from the university and the company partner. The primary applicant/principal investigator must be from a North Carolina academic or nonprofit research institute in partnership with a North Carolina-based company with interests in biotechnology research.Citizenship: unspecified. Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award

The National Institutes of Health solicit applications for the Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award (K25). The K25 mechanism is meant to attract to NIH-relevant research those investigators whose quantitative science and engineering research has thus far not been focused primarily on questions of health and disease. Examples of quantitative scientific and technical backgrounds considered appropriate for this award include, but are not limited to: mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, imaging science, informatics, physics, chemistry, and engineering. The K25 Award will support the career development of such investigators who make a commitment to basic or clinical biomedicine, bioengineering, bioimaging or behavioral research. This award provides support for a period of supervised study and research for productive professionals with quantitative backgrounds who have the potential to integrate their expertise with NIH-relevant research and develop into productive investigators. Fellowships and Grants for American Students of Polish Descent

The Kosciuszko Foundation offers the follwing scholarships:

  • Tuition Scholarships: Tuition scholarship funding is primarily focused on support of American students of Polish descent for graduate studies in the US. All majors are supported, including architecture and city planning; accounting; art; arts and humanities; business administration, banking and finance; chemistry; dentistry; education; engineering; journalism; law; music; medicine; social and applied sciences; sciences (agricultural, biological, physical-chemical, natural, epistemology, medical research, science of man and earth); violin and piano; Polish language, history and literature. Americans of ethnic backgrounds other than Polish are eligible when their major is Polish studies.
  • Exchange programs to Poland: Kosciuszko Foundation offers two exchange programs to Poland for Americans. The Year Abroad program is for undergraduate and
    graduate students who wish to study the Polish language for a year or a semester; the Graduate Studies and Research program is for graduate students, scholars and professors whose theses require research at Polish universities and archives.

National Academy of Sciences Internships

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the National Research Council (NRC) offer the Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Program to engage graduate science, engineering, medical, veterinary, business, and law students in the analysis and creation of science and technology policy and to familiarize them with the interactions of science, technology, and government. During the program, interns work on studies and activities throughout the National Academies. Each intern is assigned to a senior staff member who acts as his or her mentor. Funding for Women

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers American Fellowships for both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions. Selection criteria include outstanding academic ability, professional potential, and the importance of the field of study to improve the lives of women and girls in the country of origin. Applicants may simultaneously apply for grants to support community-based projects to be implemented in the fellow's home country in the year immediately following the fellowship year. Research at Rockefeller Archive Center

The Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC) offers Grants-in-Aid to promote and support research in the archive's various collections. The program makes awards to researchers, including doctoral candidates, whose projects require substantial research at the center. Scholars from the United States and Canada may receive up to $3,000. Scholars outside the U.S. and Canada may apply for awards up to $4,000. In addition ot the general grant program, applications are also invited for the Targeted Research Grant on the History of the Cold War; the Grant to Support Research in the Paul Ehrlich Collection; and the Rockefeller Archive Center Residencies in the History of Basic Medical Research. Public Service

The Echoing Green Foundation offers the Echoing Green Public Service Fellowship to provide seed money to start a new public service organization or an independent project. The Echoing Green Foundation supports projects in all public service areas including, but not limited to, the environment, arts, education, youth service, civil and human rights, and community and economic development. Candidates must make a full-time commitment to the development of the project and must commit to lead the project for a minimum of two consecutive years. Ford Postdoctoral Fellowships for Minorities

The National Research Council and the Ford Foundation invite applications for the Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships for Minorities. The program enables fellows to engage in a year of postdoctoral research and scholarship in an environment free from the interference of their normal professional duties. AAAS Science, Engineering, and Diplomcacy Fellowships

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) offers Science, Engineering, and Diplomacy Fellowships. Postdoctoral to midcareer scientists and engineers work in international affairs on scientific and technical subjects, in one-year assignments. Smithsonian Residential Fellowships

The Smithsonian Institution offers Postdoctoral Fellowships to support researchers in residence at the Smithsonian in association with its research staff. Princeton University Library Fellowships

The Friends of the Princeton University Library offer up to ten short-term Visiting Fellowships to promote scholarly use of the research collections of the Library. Eurasian and East European - National Research Competition

The National Council for Eurasian and East European Research (NCEEER) invites proposals for its National Research Competition: Research Grants. The purpose of the program is to develop and sustain long-term, high-quality programs for post-doctoral research on the social, political, economic, environmental, and historical development of Eurasia and Eastern Europe. From broad, cross-cultural analyses to more focused studies of particular problems, NCEEER supports research projects that facilitate a mutually beneficial exchange of information between scholars and policy-makers. This competition provides funds for both collaborative and individual research projects. Research Contracts support collaborative projects involving multiple post-doctoral scholars, including at least one US-based scholar, with a maximum award of $70,000.
