Data Retention

Duke's Data Retention Policy
requires that all records associated with research with human subjects be retained for five years after final reporting or publication. The policy applies to all research with human subjects, even that which is not funded. It also applies to exempt research with human subjects.

Defining "Record"

Consult the Duke policy for a definition of "research record" and a description of required access to the records.

Note that federal regulations for protecting human subjects consider signed consent form to be part of the research record.
