January 2006 Awards*

Patricia J. Bauer of Psychological and Brain Sciences has received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled "Effects of Temporal Structure on Memory for Events." Total funding will be $792,907 over 11 months.

John F. Burness of Public Affairs and Government has received an award from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation for a project entitled "Southwest Central Durham Quality of Life Project: A Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership Initiative." Total funding will be $10,000 over 12 months.

Larry B. Crowder of the Marine Lab has received an award from the Oak Foundation for a project entitled "Mini-Grants in Marine Conservation." Total funding will be $100,000 over 24 months.

Jonathon N. Cummings of the Fuqua School of Business has received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Fostering Innovation in Organizations through Geographically Dispersed Teams and Networks." Total funding will be $470,370 over 37 months.

Jonathan L. Goodall of the Nicholas School has received an award from Microsoft Research for a project entitled "Incorporating hydrologic time series data into geographic information system software using a smart-client architecture." Total funding will be $49,500 over 24 months.

Warren M. Grill of Biomedical Engineering has received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled "Career Development in the Mechanisms of Deep Brain Stimulation." Total funding will be $550,456 over 60 months.

Robert B. Jackson of the Nicholas School has received an award from the Department of Energy for a project entitled "A Proposed Southeastern Regional Center of the National Institute of Climate Change Research at Duke University." Total funding will be $999,786 over 60 months.

Judith Kelley of the Social Science Research Institute has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Analyzing the Effects on International Election Monitoring." Total funding will be $140,995 over 36 months.

Anita T. Layton of Mathematics has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Supplement to ADVANCE Fellows Award: Mathematical Modeling of Renal Physiology." Total funding will be $20,222 over 18 months.

Mary F. Luce of the Fuqua School of Business has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Developing a Measure of Voluntary Consent for Protocol-Based Treatment Decision." Total funding will be $119,089 over 36 months.

Benjamin Poulter of the Nicholas School has received an award from the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources for a project entitled "Using dendrochronology to confirm old-growth forest, and reconstruct climatic and hydrologic sensitivity of Atlantic white-cedar at the Buckridge Coastal Reserve, NC." Total funding will be $18,377 over 2 months.

Kathleen Pryer of Biology has received an award from the National Geographic Society for a project entitled "Toward a comprehensive fern tree of life: Exploration and training in the forests of Southeast Asia." Total funding will be $25,000 over 6 months.

William M. Reichert of Biomedical Engineering has received an award from Becton Dickinson and Company for a project entitled "Collaborative Project for the Development of High Troughput Cytokine Assay." Total funding will be $44,000 over 18 months.

Alex Roland of History has received a fellowship award from the National Science Foundation for graduate student Marie Hicks, for a project entitled "Doctoral Dissertation Research: Office Automation and the Construction of Computerization as Productivity in Britain, 1945 to 1975." Total funding will be $12,000 over 12 months.

Kathy A. Silbiger of Duke Performances has received an award from the New England Foundation for the Arts for a project entitled "Jose Limon Dance Co./Chiaroscuro Project." Total funding will be $3,150 over 6 months.

Carol Spruill of the School of Law has received an award from the NC State Bar Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts for a project entitled "IOLTA Public Service Internship Program." Total funding will be $15,000 over 12 months.

Adrienne D. Stiff-Roberts of Electrical Engineering has received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Hybrid Nanomaterials for Multi-functional Sensors: Synthesis and Characterization of Nanocomposite Thin-Films for Device Applications." Total funding will be $399,998 over 60 months.

Patrick D. Wolf of Biomedical Engineering has received a fellowship award from the National Institutes of Health for graduate student Ninita H. Brown, for a project entitled "Minority Predoctoral Fellowship Program." Total funding will be $97,000 over 36 months.
