Shivnath Babu of Computer Science has received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Querying and Controlling Systems." Total funding will be $499,995 over 60 months.

Philip N. Benfey of Biology has received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled "Cell-Specific Transcriptional Responses to Environmental Stress in Arabidopsis." Total funding will be $141,318 over 36 months.

Don Coltart of Chemistry has received an award from the American Foundation for Aging Research for a project entitled "AFAR-Glaxo SmithKline Foundation Award." Total funding will be $2,000 over 4 months.

Steven A. Cummer of Electrical Engineering has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Remote Measurements of Lighting Current and Charge Transfer with Low Frequency EM Sensors." Total funding will be $324,126 over 36 months.

Cathy N. Davidson of the Franklin Institute has received an award from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for a project entitled "The Future of Learning Institutions in a Digital Age: Towards a MacArthur Foundation White Paper." Total funding will be $150,000 over 12 months.

Ian G. Dobbins of Psychology and Neuroscience has received an award from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill for a project entitled "Neural Bases of Automatic and Controlled Affective Responses to Smoking Cues." Total funding will be $56,962 over 12 months.

Kenneth A. Dodge of the Center for Child and Family Policy has received an award from the Duke Endowment for a project entitled "Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect Initiative." Total funding will be $1,710,000 over 12 months.

Warren M. Grill of Biomedical Engineering has received an award from Northstar Neuroscience, Inc. for a project entitled "Modeling Epidural Electrical Stimulation of the Cortex." Total funding will be $74,802 over 12 months.

Jennifer M. Groh of Cognitive Neuroscience has received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled "CRCNS: Integrative Information Processing." Total funding will be $460,421 over 22 months.

Heileen Hsu-Kim of Civil Engineering has received an award from the American Chemical Society for a project entitled "Stabilization of Metal-Sulfide Nanoparticles by Natural Organic Matter." Total funding will be $20,000 over 31 months.

Lisa A. Keister of Sociology has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Ownership and Innovation: Corporate Ownership and Strategy Formation During China's Transition." Total funding will be $57,687 over 4 months.

Robert E. Kielb of Mechanical Engineering has received an award from Blade Diagnostics Corporation for a project entitled "Aerodynamic/Structural Mistuning Technologies for Assessing IBR/Blisk Repairs." Total funding will be $39,992 over 11 months.

Jeffrey L. Krolik of Electrical Engineering has received an award from the Naval Research Laboratory for a project entitled "Beamspace Adaptive Channel Compensation and Temporal Clutter Mitigation for OTH Radar." Total funding will be $100,000 over 12 months.

Carolyn McAllaster of the School of Law has received an award from the Crape Myrtle Festival for a project entitled "The Duke AIDS Legal Assistance Project." Total funding will be $1,000 over 12 months.

James W. Moody of Sociology has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "SBE - HSD - Dynamics of Human Behavior." Total funding will be $230,080 over 36 months.

Lincoln F. Pratson of Earth & Ocean Sciences has received an award from the University of Minnesota for a project entitled "Experimental Study of Basin Stratigraphy." Total funding will be $20,000 over 3 months.

Kathleen Pryer of Biology has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "A plan to rehouse and reorganize the vascular plant herbarium and botanical library at Duke University." Total funding will be $467,691 over 36 months.

Alex Roland of the Triangle Institute for Security Studies has received an award from the United States Army War College for a project entitled "National Security Implications of Global Climate Change." Total funding will be $24,990 over 12 months.

Kimerly R. Rorschach of the Nasher Museum of Art has received an award from the Skylark Foundation for a project entitled "Request for Visiting Artist Support." Total funding will be $15,000 over 12 months.

David R. Sherwood of Biology has received an award from the March of Dimes for a project entitled "Genetic Analysis of Invasive Cellular Behavior." Total funding will be $150,000 over 24 months.

Elwyn L. Simons of Biological Anthropology has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Paleoanthropological Research at the Fossil Primate Sites of the Fayum, Egypt (Supplement)." Total funding will be $6,500 over 17 months.

Anthony So of Public Policy Studies has received an award from the Open Society Institute for a project entitled "Access to Essential Medicines." Total funding will be $450,000 over 36 months.

Dean L. Urban of the Nicholas School has received an award from the National Council for Science and the Environment for a project entitled "Assessment of US Habitat Conservation and Provision of Ecosystems Services." Total funding will be $190,730 over 12 months.

Mark R. Wiesner of Civil Engineering has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Collaborative Research: Fullerene Aggregation in Aquatic Systems." Total funding will be $232,327 over 4 months.

Mark R. Wiesner of Civil Engineering has received an award from the University of California - Los Angeles for a project entitled "Methods and Models for Nanoparticle Toxicity Screening Applied to Fullerenes and Comparative Nano-Scale Particles." Total funding will be $150,000 over 9 months.

Tomoyuki Yoshie of Electrical Engineering has received an award from Innovation Core SEI, Inc. for a project entitled "Silcon Nanophotonics: Lasers, LEDs and Optical Isolators." Total funding will be $50,593 over 12 months.
