Jumping through the Hoops at Duke

All proposals submitted by campus personnel, regardless of the amount or source of funding or the type of project, must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Research Support. This review complements departmental, school, and other specialized review processes, all of which must be completed before Research Support may approve a submission. Proposal materials should be submitted to 334 North Building for review.

Exceptions to this policy are:

-- proposals for construction projects approved by the Board of Trustees for submission to corporations or foundations

--proposals for endowment funds

--fellowship programs which award funds directly to students or faculty and do not require any University involvement during the proposal or award processes.

Duke Proposal Approval Form

This required routing form must be filed out and completed before ORS will approve the proposal for submission. If there are Co-Principal Investigators on the proposal from different departments the form must be routed through each of the department.

Department & School Approval

Routing can vary, so you may need to start this process early if you have several departments or schools participating on the proposal.

Duke Clearances

Other clearances may be required as well. Will human subjects be involved? Hazardous Materials?

ORS Review & Approval

Do you want to know what ORS needs and when we need it? Well, in an ideal world anyway.
