Though as Research Administrators, we may not be conducting the research, we are part of the research enterprise at Duke. Your vigilance, care, and hard work propel the research forward and keep Duke in the position to remain eligible to receive federal funding. Federal funding comes with a strings attached and those strings can be summed up in one word--compliance. In general, we all hate to see fraud, waste and abuse, we all want to be responsible custodians of the tax-payers' money and interests, we all want to further the education and research goals of Duke University, and we all want to keep our jobs. Duke has created an extensive research administration infrastructure that reaches from the PI and RA to the President's Office with many offices in between. The roles and responsibilties of the employees in these positions are critical Duke's continued success. As part of this infrastructure, ORS plays many roles and has many responsibilties. One of its key responsibilities is education. Part of our support function is the make it easier for RA to do what they need to do. You have entered the on-line version of our day-long workshop entitled
"Grants and Contracts Administration (Campus)." We have created
this web course to acheive two ends: ORS takes its support role seriously, so we have created this web site to provide the Duke Community with an extensive, though not exhaustive, resource of policies and procedures. The site provides links to other key administrative offices that provide services or house policy documents. How to Take the Course The navigation bar to the right is the course outline built around the major headings of our homepage. Each of these links will take you to a workshop text box like this one for an overview of the section. Within the text box, you will find other links to the homepage itself. To simplify matters, these links will only hit the highlights--this is only a day-long workshop after all. As you move through the navigation bar from top to bottom, follow your interests and explore the rest of the homepage. I would recommend bookmarking this page however, since at some point you might realize that you're lost in OMB Circular A-21 and that you don't remember how to get home.
