The Award Process in Brief

When ORS receives an award by mail or email (if a principal investigator receives the original copy of an award it should be forwarded to ORS as quickly as possible), a process begins which leads to establishment of an account - WBS element - in the Duke financial system. If ORS has a complete proposal on file, the timeframe for receiving the WBS element is about 48 hours. At a minumum, a complete proposal includes a statement of work, a budget that matches the amount of the award and a Duke Proposal Approval Form. If these items are not in the file, the award process cannot be completed until the principal investigator provides them.
